FESTIVAL 1999 (29 May 1999)
"Vegetarian Doctors Investigate Health and Vegetarian Medicine in the East and the West"
The JPVS Festival 1999 was held on May 29, at New Osaka Hotel in Osaka,
one of the biggest cities in western Japan. The attendees varied
form Japanese to those from abroad, indicating the global nature of
vegetarianism.
During the general meeting, Dr. Mitsuru Kakimoto, president of Japan
Vegetarian Society, reported on the IVU World Congress in Thailand in
January.
After the general meeting, a panel discussion titled "Vegetarian Doctors
Investigate Health and Vegetarian Medicine in the East and the West" was
coordinated by Ms. Yumi Watabe, Professor at Osaka Shin-Ai
College, expert on food and nutrition. She started the discussion with
vegetarianism in terms of nutrition and health, mind and soul.
Dr. Kenji Yamagata, Deputy Director of Kobe Adventist Hospital
discussed vegetarian diets from the viewpoint of Western medicine. Dr.
Hidetaka Suzuki, practitioner, followed Dr. Suzuki who spoke with the viewpoint of
Eastern medicine. Dr. Masao Kosaka, Professor at Osaka Shin-Ai
College, expert on public health, used statistics to introduce
state-of-the-art information about vegetarianism in Japan.
After the panel discussion, a buffet party was given, giving the
attendees an opportunity to taste 100% vegetarian Chinese cuisine.
FESTIVAL 1998 (30 May 1998)
"Lifestyles for the 21 Century" with Hiroko Koshino
JVS FESTIVAL 98 was held at Mitsui Urban Hotel Osaka on May 30. After
the general meeting, a panel discussion was arranged with an invited
speaker, Ms. HIROKO KOSHINO, a dress designer, known for her fashionable
clothes in Japan and abroad. Discussions with Dr Mitsuru Kakimoto,
president of Japanese Vegetarian Society, and other speakers interested
the audience.
